Vacuum #1

A number of discarded TV sets arranged in a row are switching on and off at various intervals. The magnetic interference caused by the switching process is transformed into sound and played back into the space.

Vacuum #1 engages directly with the material technology of image reproduction. Devoid of content, the machines are left to engage in an empty dialogue, where their function is reversed: Rather than being transparent windows into a different place, their own internal mechanics become the subject of inquiry.
